Madani welcomes the agreement of the Djiboutian government and the opposition

Jeddah (INA) – The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Iyad Amin Madani, welcomed today, Wednesday, the agreement signed by the government of the Republic of Djibouti and the opposition bloc, which ended a political dispute arising from the results of the legislative elections that the country witnessed last year. The Secretary-General expressed his blessing for this qualitative leap, which affirmed everyone's keenness to prioritize the dialogue approach and the public interest. Madani also affirmed that the cohesion of the Djiboutian people and their rallying around their leadership will pave the way for moving forward for the good and prosperity of the country and its people. Madani stressed that the agreement confirms the sincere and serious intentions of the Djibouti government, and President Ismail Omar Guelleh, who played a key role in the dialogue, praising at the same time all the parties that participated in the success of the agreement, which would enhance stability in the country and open the door to a new path of partnership. and mutual support among all. On Tuesday, the Djiboutian government signed an agreement that ends the different interpretations and political controversy that has afflicted the country since the announcement of the results of the legislative elections that took place on February 22 of last year. The agreement, which was postponed at least twice, was signed by the government, the head of the Union for the Presidential Majority, Prime Minister Abdelkader Kamel Mohamed, and by the opposition, the head of the Union for National Salvation, Ahmed Youssef. While the representative of the ruling coalition noted in his speech that the concluded agreement obliges the two parties to continue the discussion on outstanding issues through a joint committee that includes representatives of both parties, the head of the opposition bloc expressed his hope that this agreement would be able to move forward in consolidating the principles of political life, describing the agreement as the fruit of joint efforts. Achieved after each party accepted the other. In turn, President Ismail Omar congratulated his generation, who sponsored the occasion, the political leadership of both sides for putting the supreme interest of the country above all considerations, calling for the translation of this historic agreement into reality.
