Yona and Ruptly are organizing a workshop on the principles of checking media content in news coverage, tomorrow, Tuesday

Jeddah (UNA) - The Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA) will hold tomorrow, Tuesday (July 18, 2023), a virtual workshop entitled “Applying Principles of Verification of Media Content in News Coverage”, in cooperation with “Ruptly” Agency, the leading international agency. In the field of videos and journalistic investigations.

The workshop aims to identify the necessary skills and the latest technologies used in the verification of media content, especially those related to videos and images.

The training content in the workshop was presented by the Head of the Verification Unit at Ruptly Agency, Mary Saclario, who will acquaint the participants with the mechanisms and skills of verification and investigation of the validity of media content, in addition to enabling them to overcome the challenges related to the inclusion of verification processes at the core of the daily work of their media organizations.

Participants will also learn about verification and validation processes in newsrooms, and the basic work that must be done before video content is published and distributed.

The Acting Director General of the Federation of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Abed Rabbo Al-Yami, confirmed that the workshop comes within the framework of the Union's endeavors to strengthen the role of news agencies in confronting misinformation and false news.

He explained that the workshop will allow employees of news agencies and media in Islamic countries to learn about the latest technologies in detecting counterfeiting methods that are constantly evolving, and to identify the applications used in this aspect.

In turn, CEO of Ruptly Agency Dinara Toktosunova said: “We are very grateful and happy to cooperate with the Federation of OIC News Agencies to implement this verification workshop,” adding: “We hope that our achievements and innovative approach in this field will help all participants in the verification process.”

Toktosunova also expressed her hope to continue cooperation with UNA in various fields.
