The World Bank allocates $570 million to finance programs in West African countries

Niamey (UNA) - The World Bank has announced the allocation of US$ 570 million in financing to support programs to combat poverty and enhance food security in four West African countries. Targeting Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Togo, this new program aims to improve the capacity of local systems to be able to reduce agricultural risks and increase food security, while strengthening intra-regional value chains. Under this funding, called the Food Systems Resilience Program, a budget of $330 million will be disbursed in the first phase. In addition to the four countries, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Joint Permanent Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel, and the Council for West and Central Africa for Agricultural Research and Development are participating in this new programme. These partners will implement a program to increase agricultural productivity through climate-smart practices, strengthen value chains, and increase intra-regional trade and agricultural risk management capacities.
