Signing the agreement establishing the ISESCO chair at the Euro-Mediterranean University in Fez

Rabat (UNA) - The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and the Euro-Mediterranean University in Fez, Kingdom of Morocco, signed an agreement to establish the ISESCO Chair for Women in Science: Artificial Intelligence and the Future at the university, with the aim of promoting scientific research in the field of artificial intelligence and encouraging the participation of girls and women. In this field, through training, workshops, and doctoral research, in addition to establishing a culture of foresight. The agreement was signed by Dr. Salim bin Muhammad Al-Malik, Director General of ISESCO, and Dr. Mustafa Bousmina, President of the Euro-Mediterranean University, in the presence of a number of directors of sectors, departments and advisors of ISESCO, and a number of university officials, including Dr. Maha Kamira, chair coordinator. In his speech during the signing ceremony held at the organization’s headquarters in Rabat yesterday, Monday (May 17, 2021), Dr. AlMalik stressed that this chair falls within the initiative of ISESCO’s Women’s Year 2021, and embodies the fruitful cooperation between ISESCO Center for Strategic Foresight and the Euro-Mediterranean University, to promote the culture of foresight, and encourage the use of Artificial intelligence within an ethical and sustainable framework, within the framework of providing equal opportunities for both sexes to enhance their personal and professional development. He added: The establishment of the ISESCO chair at the university meets the need to build the capabilities of young women, enhance their presence and contribution in the field of artificial intelligence, qualify them in this field, and continue working in new fields. For his part, Dr. Bousmina expressed his happiness at signing the agreement, stressing that this chair will enhance the school established by the university for digital engineering and artificial intelligence, which is considered the first on the African level, and indicated that it aims to conduct research in the field of artificial intelligence, and attract a number of students from Member States ISESCO, and openness to the world through the conclusion of agreements with centers from different countries. Dr. Maha Kamira said that she is proud to be the coordinator of the chair, and that she will be involved in promoting a culture of foresight and qualifying women in the field of artificial intelligence. sustainable development in their countries. The chair also aims, according to the terms of the agreement, to develop partnerships at the international level, and training in the field of research and innovation, and in future professions related to the field of artificial intelligence, by enhancing the participation of female researchers, conducting studies and research that fall within the priorities of the chair, and attracting young researchers from member states of the ISESCO to develop artificial intelligence algorithms and techniques for the benefit of society.
