Jenin (UNA/WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces began demolishing 20 homes in Barta’a, southwest of Jenin, on Monday.
The mayor of Barta’a, Ghassan Qabha, told Wafa: “The occupation court decided yesterday to demolish 20 houses in the southern area of the town, and the occupation bulldozers arrived at the entrance of the town in preparation for demolishing them.”
He confirmed that the municipality's lawyers and residents had filed an appeal with the court today, which decided to reject it and demolish the 20 houses.
Qabha added that 8 houses were evacuated of their belongings, while the residents of the remaining houses slated for demolition refused to evacuate and move their belongings.
He explained that the 20 houses house approximately 100 people, and that by demolishing them they will be displaced and left without shelter.
Residents climbed onto the roofs of their homes threatened with demolition in Bartaa, coinciding with the arrival of the occupation's demolition machinery.
