Tunis (UNA) - The Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: The decision of the US administration to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the occupying Israeli state is a fundamental violation of the legal and historical status of the city of Jerusalem, and a breach of the relevant UN resolutions and agreements between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, which were concluded under US auspices and stipulate that the status of the city is determined in the final status negotiations. The ministry explained in a press statement: The US decision seriously threatens to undermine the foundations of the peace process, and pushes the region towards more tension and instability, in addition to what it represents in terms of provocation for the Arab and Islamic nations, due to the symbolism of Jerusalem and its status in the region and the world. The statement renewed Tunisia's principled and firm position in support of the just Palestinian cause and its backing. It called on all parties of the international community to refrain from taking any steps or measures that would constitute public or implicit recognition of Israel's annexation of Jerusalem, which is an integral part of the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967.
