
ISLAMABAD (UNA) – The 2nd Annual Meeting of the COMSTECH Consortium for Excellence (CCoE) and the 5th Conference of University Presidents concluded yesterday with the adoption of the Islamabad Declaration, which reaffirmed the commitment of member states to enhance cooperation in the fields of science and technology, higher education and the health sector.
The meeting, which witnessed the signing of more than 30 memoranda of understanding, was attended by a delegation of 28 members from 17 leading universities and academic institutions from several countries, to enhance academic and research cooperation, in addition to exchanging expertise and knowledge and benefiting from successful experiences.
For their part, the participants praised COMSTECH’s initiatives in support of Palestine, especially the allocation of 5,000 scholarships and research fellowships for Palestinian students and researchers, stressing their full support for the rehabilitation of the education and health sectors in Palestine.
In a move to enhance academic and research cooperation, the delegation extended an invitation to their counterparts, Vice Chancellors of Pakistani universities from CCoE member institutions, to participate in future joint research projects.
The meeting concluded with a collective pledge to achieve the goals of the COMSTECH Excellence Consortium through effective and sustainable partnerships. The Islamabad Declaration represents the collective will of OIC Member States to employ science, technology and education as key drivers of sustainable development, paving the way for greater innovation, knowledge sharing and progress in OIC countries.
