UNESCO recognizes 20 new nature reserves around the world

Paris (INA) - The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has included 20 new sites in its list of nature reserves. A number of reserves in India, Indonesia, Algeria, Kazakhstan, Iran, Ghana, Morocco, Peru, Tanzania, Haiti and other countries joined the list, bringing the total number of those reserves located in 120 countries around the world to 669. Among the new sites is the Tahoe River region located between Portugal and Spain, Lake Hamon in eastern Iran, and a lake in the Arctic region northwest of Canada, which is the only remaining virgin among its counterparts on Earth. According to Russia Today, UNESCO's decision came during the Organization's Fourth World Conference, which was held in the Peruvian capital, Lima, on March 14-17. (End) AM/AM
