Istanbul (UNA/Anadolu) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that preserving Islamic arts is of paramount importance, especially in light of the challenges posed by technology and digital culture to traditional arts.
This came in a speech he delivered yesterday, Sunday, during his visit to an Islamic art exhibition in Istanbul.
President Erdogan added that Islamic arts are a visible and tangible embodiment of the high aesthetic awareness that Muslims possess.
He pointed out that Istanbul, after its conquest by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror in 1453, had become a capital of the arts of calligraphy and gilding.
Erdogan cited figures from history who excelled in calligraphy and other Islamic arts, such as Ali ibn Yahya al-Sufi, Sheikh Hamdullah Efendi, and Hafiz Osman Efendi.
He praised the “most wonderful and rarest works of art” they produced, which resonated globally.
