
Jeddah (UNA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the ratification by the so-called “Knesset”. The Israeli government, in its preliminary reading, approved a bill aimed at preventing the call to prayer under legislation called the “Muezzin Law,” which it considers an invalid procedure and a legislative crime of a discriminatory and racist nature, and a flagrant violation of freedom of religion and worship, and of the cultural and religious rights guaranteed by the rules of international law and international human rights law.
She stressed that this legislation represents a dangerous escalation in the series of decisions and laws. The racist Israeli measures aimed at restricting the Palestinian presence and targeting the Arab and Islamic identity also constitute a direct attack on the sanctity of religious rites and Islamic holy sites.
The organization stressed that tampering with the call to prayer constitutes a violation of international legal obligations, including the provisions of international law on civil and political rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and other relevant international conventions that guarantee freedom to practice religious rites without discrimination or restriction.
It called upon the international community, particularly the United Nations and its specialized agencies and all international parties, to take urgent action to stop these measures and policies of the Israeli occupation, which violate international law, and to repeal and invalidate this legislation. And other racist and illegal legislation, Taking the necessary measures to ensure respect for freedom of worship and the protection of Islamic holy sites, and holding Israel, the occupying power, accountable for its continued violations of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy.
