
Astana (UNA) – The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) received in Astana the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Timothy Musa Kabba, with the aim of strengthening cooperation in the fields of food security and agricultural development.
During the meeting, the Director-General of the Organization, Ambassador Beric Arin, commended Sierra Leone's commitment to developing its agricultural sector, pointing to several promising areas for cooperation.
Discussions focused on rice development and enhancing local production capacity. The meeting also addressed Sierra Leone's participation in the cassava value chain project and explored ways to develop the livestock sector. Sierra Leone was also invited to join the OIC Genebank Initiative, a pioneering project aimed at preserving agricultural biodiversity in OIC countries.
The two sides also agreed to form a joint technical working group to develop a detailed framework in line with Sierra Leone's National Agricultural Transformation Programme. Sierra Leone was invited to participate in the Seventh Session of the General Assembly of the Islamic Organisation for Food Security from 1 to 2 July 2025.
