Cairo (UNA/WAM) – Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, strongly condemned the Iranian aggression attacks that targeted the two Emirati national oil tankers, “Mombasa” and “Al Bahia,” while they were passing through the southern passage of the Strait of Hormuz, within Omani territorial waters, which resulted in the death of one crew member and the injury of others. He expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of the victim and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Parliamentarian Al-Yamahi affirmed in a statement issued yesterday, Tuesday, the Arab Parliament’s full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and its support for the measures it is taking to protect its security, stability, economic interests and preserve its sovereignty.
He stressed that this represents a flagrant violation of the rules of international law and freedom of navigation, and poses a direct threat to the security of international sea lanes and the safety of commercial vessels, as well as being a serious breach of the relevant Security Council resolutions that emphasize the need to protect international navigation and not expose it to any threat.
Al-Yamahi called on the international community and the Security Council to assume their responsibilities regarding these repeated threats to international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
