
Damascus (UNA/SANA) – Syria strongly condemned the Iranian attacks that targeted two tankers belonging to the United Arab Emirates in the Strait of Hormuz, within Omani territorial waters, which resulted in the death of one crew member and the injury of others.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement on Tuesday that these actions constitute a violation of international law and the principles of freedom of navigation, and contribute to escalating tensions in the region, which negatively impacts regional and international security and stability.
The Foreign Ministry added: Syria affirms its full solidarity with the UAE in the face of any aggression that affects its sovereignty, security and stability, and stresses the importance of respecting the rules of international law and ensuring the safety and security of maritime navigation.
The UAE announced on Monday that Iranian cruise missiles targeted the oil tankers “Mombasa” and “Al-Bahia” in the southern shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz, within Omani waters, resulting in the death of one crew member of the tanker “Mombasa” and the injury of 8 others.
