Ramallah (UNA/WAFA) – The Palestinian Cabinet called on the United Nations to shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities towards protecting the institutions of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Jerusalem, following the issuance of a military order by the occupation authorities to close the agency’s girls’ school in the Shuafat refugee camp within 30 days. This order came after other schools in Silwan, Wadi al-Joz, and Sur Baher were previously closed, in a blatant attempt to empty Jerusalem of its educational and service institutions and impose new facts on the ground that violate international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
During its weekly session held today, Tuesday, in the city of Ramallah, the Council of Ministers affirmed its continued intensive efforts and actions with various international parties to stop the systematic crimes committed by the Israeli occupation authorities, especially in light of the ongoing escalation of genocide in the Gaza Strip, and the targeting of the tents of displaced persons, press crews, and humanitarian teams, in parallel with the acceleration of Judaization and annexation projects, and the escalation of settler attacks in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem.
He stressed that international political statements and positions rejecting the occupation's violations are no longer sufficient and have not deterred the occupation authorities from continuing their crimes. He pointed out that the gravity of the Israeli aggression requires the international community to break the cycle of silence and take concrete steps, foremost among which is activating international accountability tools and putting an end to the occupation regime's impunity.
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa affirmed President Mahmoud Abbas's directives to the diplomatic corps and various government institutions to intensify their efforts to serve the Palestinian people and their just causes. He briefed the Council on the agenda of the first high-level meeting between Palestine and the European Union, to be held in Brussels for the first time. The meeting, attended by foreign ministers from 27 European countries, will see the Prime Minister discuss ways to enhance cooperation and coordination and mobilize political and financial support for Palestine, along with EU officials.
