The Palestinian delegate to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation calls for confronting the media system of the Israeli occupation

Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – The Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Ambassador Maher Al-Karaki, stressed the need to confront the false terminology that the media, which is biased towards the machine and the Israeli media system, is promoting to divert attention from the truth, distort it, and obliterate the Palestinian narrative and replace it with the narrative of the Israeli occupation.
This came during his participation in the work of the virtual workshop: “Media Circulation of Terminology of the Palestinian Cause” held by the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA) on Tuesday (March 21, 2023) with the participation of the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO). Beit Mal Al-Quds Agency, in addition to news agencies that are members of the Union, and a number of diplomats and media professionals.
Al-Karaki pointed out that the biased Western media, and behind it the Israeli media, seeks to reverse the facts, and according to the logic of its media coverage, Israel, the occupying power, does not wage an unjustified war on the Palestinians, but rather defends itself, and therefore it is not a military occupier, nor does it impose an apartheid regime on the occupied people. .
In this regard, Al-Karaki cited the military aggression launched by the Israeli occupation army against the Palestinian city of Nablus and its old town on February 22, as one of the Western channels described the military attack with the word "raid", and used the phrase "which left 11 Palestinians dead", pointing out that this The description ignores the exposure of Palestinians in broad daylight to a military attack with live bullets by the occupation soldiers.
He pointed out that this biased media deals with the Palestinian issue as if it is a conflict issue between two parties, and this is what the Israeli media machine has done 75 years ago through systematic campaigns of misleading, distortion and falsification and through stereotypes and the use of misleading terminology that reduces the Palestinian issue to an issue of conflict to suggest that it is a struggle between two equal powers. He ignores the fact that there is an occupation of the Palestinian land, indicating that with this confusion, the biased media seeks equality between the victim and the executioner, and puts the two parties in two parallel arms of military force, which is completely contrary to the truth and reality.
The Palestinian delegate stressed that the Palestinian issue is not a conflict or conflict, but rather a national and humanitarian issue related to the human rights of the Palestinian people, and their right to a decent life, freedom and independence.
He explained that the biased media outlets circulate a lot of media terminology designed to distort the Palestinian narrative, relying on the fact that the media constitutes a powerful directive tool that influences global public opinion, including Arab and Islamic societies, in a way that serves the Israeli narrative at the expense of the Palestinian narrative.
Al-Karaki pointed out that scientific studies in this regard have concluded that there is a clear double standards in Western media, and that there is direct targeting of the Palestinian cause and media bias to improve the mental image of the Israeli occupation at the expense of the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people.
Al-Karaki pointed out to some biased media practices, such as obscuring the context related to events and covering up the crimes of the Israeli occupation and framing them as acts of self-defense and that they are victims while the Palestinians are aggressors and terrorists.
He stressed the necessity of activating joint Islamic action in advocating the Palestinian cause, and developing a joint action strategy and studied media tools that depend on accurate terminology for the Palestinian cause and aim to correct the distorted image of these terms and focus on activating the role of the media in defending the Palestinian narrative and confronting the Israeli media that seeks to obliterate it by all means. and tools.
