Jeddah (UNNA) – The Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed its strong condemnation of the assassination of Al-Jazeera correspondent, Sherine Abu Aqleh, in the Palestinian territories, stressing that this constitutes a clear violation of international laws and norms. The Union affirmed that the Israeli occupation forces targeting journalist Abu Aqleh while carrying out her journalistic duty comes in the context of Israeli violations of press and media freedom, and within its policy aimed at confiscating the truth, silencing mouths, covering up its daily violations, and preventing its communication to world public opinion. The Federation called on the concerned international institutions to provide the necessary protection for journalists and media professionals working in the occupied Palestinian territory, in accordance with international humanitarian law and relevant international agreements.
