Mass demonstrations to denounce the Rohingya massacres in Pakistan

Karachi (INA) - Today, Tuesday, the city of Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan, witnessed mass demonstrations. In protest against the massacres and war of ethnic cleansing waged by the Myanmar army against the Rohingya Muslim minority in Arakan province. The demonstrators roamed the main streets of Karachi, chanting slogans against the Myanmar government, and carrying banners bearing the phrases Rohingya are Muslims and stop killing our brothers and stop killing us because we are Muslims in English and Urdu. The demonstrators denounced the silence of the international community and its lax attitude towards what is happening to the Rohingya Muslims, and demanded a firm stance against the Myanmar government and the trial of its army leaders as war criminals. The Pakistani police imposed a security cordon around the demonstrators, fearing an outbreak of violence in the city, the most populous in the country. Karachi and several other Pakistani cities witnessed massive demonstrations last Friday. To demand the intervention of the international community to save the Rohingya Muslims, following the spread of a video clip on social media accusing the Myanmar army of burning 31 women and girls alive in the village of Dar Jizar, north of Maungdaw in Arakan. The Arakan region has witnessed large-scale military operations launched by the Myanmar army since last October, allegedly in pursuit of militants who launched attacks on three Myanmar border guards, killing 9 soldiers.
