Berlin (INA) – Heiko Maas, the German Minister of Justice, warned again against exposing Islam to injustice in Germany. The minister, who belongs to the Social Democratic Party, said in remarks to the German newspaper Neue Osnabruecke Zeitung published yesterday, Saturday, that in matters of religion there should not be a two-tier system of government, as freedom is always the same as freedom, and the preference of some religions by the state is contradictory. Maas added, in his statements, reported by the German dpa agency, that the central and state governments adhere to the goal of equating Islamic sects with churches as part of the common law and regulating coexistence within the framework of international treaties. He pointed out that the terrorism committed by some Muslims and Islamic immigration to Germany did not change anything in this goal. The German minister went on to say: It is for this reason that Muslims must be integrated as members of society in a better way. And he considered that the problem is that the state lacks people who would serve as central contacts with Muslims, in contrast to the case with Christians.
