Riyadh (UNA) – The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has strengthened its international efforts to reopen the international dialogue towards the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence in various countries around the world, extending its recommendations on the ethics of artificial intelligence, which it adopted with the 194 member states of the organization in 2021.
These efforts, led by the international organization, aim to address the challenges of the unfair effects of advanced technologies on human societies, particularly with regard to human protection, and to support the use of artificial intelligence in a safer, fairer and more inclusive manner.
This step embodies UNESCO’s partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as this partnership contributed to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, hosting the fourth edition of the UNESCO Global Forum on Artificial Intelligence Ethics, which will be held from September 14 to 17, as part of a joint cooperation between UNESCO, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), and the International Center for Research and Ethics in Artificial Intelligence (ICAIRE). The Kingdom is the first Arab country to host this global forum, which is expected to be attended by 95 countries.
This forum is one of the most prominent international platforms concerned with the ethics of artificial intelligence, and this edition is expected to promote global dialogue on responsible governance of artificial intelligence, exchange experiences and best practices, and explore ways to employ its technologies in a way that contributes to achieving sustainable development and enhancing the prosperity of societies.
Over four days, the forum will discuss a number of key themes, including: the ethics and governance of artificial intelligence, capacity building, responsible innovation, and international policies, in addition to reviewing the latest global initiatives and experiences in this field, through high-level sessions and specialized workshops that bring together a select group of experts and policymakers from around the world.
