Rabat (UNA) - As part of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) Cultural Capitals Program, the celebration of Doha as the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 8 for the Arab region will kick off next Monday (March 2021, 2021), under the slogan Our Culture is Light, under the patronage of the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. It includes more than 70 programs and activities that reflect the authenticity and heritage of Qatar, which will be implemented throughout the year 2021. Since its launch in 2005, ISESCO’s Cultural Capitals Program in the Islamic World aims to celebrate cultural cities with a prominent cultural history, immortalize their cultural and civilizational glories, promote cultural and civilizational dialogue, and consolidate the values of coexistence and understanding among peoples. Three cities are selected each year, each representing one of the three geographical regions of the organization’s member states (the Arab region - the African region - the Asian region). The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Qatar supervises the organization of the programs and activities of the Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World celebration, in cooperation with the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and in partnership with a number of ministries and bodies in the State of Qatar, including: the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Qatar Museums Authority, the Public Institution for Cultural Village Katara, and Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. The programs and activities of the celebration represent a platform for unleashing creativity in various intellectual, artistic and cultural fields, highlighting the role of the State of Qatar in cultural fields, its cultural richness and civilizational heritage, in addition to encouraging creativity and innovation as civilizational values that enrich Islamic civilization. ISESCO chose Doha as the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for the year 2021, due to its ancient history and heritage, and based on the fact that Doha is considered a land of dialogue and a meeting place for cultures and openness to civilizations.
