Manama (UNA) – A workshop entitled “Mechanisms and Concepts of the World Heritage Convention” began at the headquarters of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage in Manama on Sunday, with the participation of experts and specialists in cultural and natural heritage in Palestine and Libya. The eight-day workshop addresses the World Heritage Convention, an international legal framework instrument whose primary goal is to preserve and protect humanity’s shared heritage. The workshop includes two axes: cultural heritage conservation and risk management, in addition to several technical topics related to the voice of cultural heritage and first aid for tangible and movable heritage in cooperation with the ICCROM-Archives of Reality Center in the Emirate of Sharjah, UAE. The workshop discussed on its first day the main objectives of the workshop, which are to enhance the capacities of heritage specialists in Libya and Palestine regarding the basic concepts and principles of the World Heritage Convention, and to exchange experiences among participants regarding the management and protection of World Heritage sites.
