The Arab League calls for the protection of Arab cultural heritage from looting

Cairo (INA) – The League of Arab States called for redoubling efforts to continue protecting the threatened Arab cultural heritage, as a result of destruction, looting and theft, especially the threatened and migrated heritage of manuscripts, which must be protected and restored, and the establishment of a unified Arab catalog for it, and the development of legal frameworks to prevent abuse. Manage and maintain it. The Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector of the Arab League, Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, called on behalf of the Secretary-General of the League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, during the celebration of the Arab Manuscripts Day for the Arab countries, to seek reference to the Model Law for the Protection of Manuscripts in Arab Countries that was approved by the Arab Ministers of Culture in 1987 AD as A model law to protect, preserve and restore manuscripts and prevent distortion and leakage, in order to develop legal legislation to preserve our manuscript heritage as a national wealth that had an active role in making human civilization. And she considered that the manuscript heritage, estimated by the Institute of Arab Manuscripts at about three million, represents an integral part of this cultural and civilizational heritage, as it represents a cultural, historical and cultural treasure due to the scientific and historical value it represents, and it always remains a witness to the extent of Arab progress in various fields of science. She expressed regret over the continued systematic destruction of the manuscripts’ heritage at the beginning of the twenty-first century AD with the American occupation of Iraq, the invasion of the National Museum with tanks, the destruction of manuscripts and their smuggling abroad, followed by the destruction that befell Syria, where brutal terrorism affected the heritage, and the manuscript heritage was destroyed in the city of Aleppo. As a result of the continuous bombing of mosques and libraries hosting this heritage, Palestine's written heritage has also fallen into the clutches of the Israeli occupation, which distorted, obliterated, forged and used it to support its false claims. For his part, the Director General of the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science, Dr. Abdullah Hamad Muhareb, warned of the seriousness of the systematic sabotage and destruction of Arab heritage and manuscripts, as well as the erasure and destruction of all manuscripts and cultural heritage. He stressed the need to search for ways to save and protect the Arab heritage, especially in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya and some African Islamic countries such as Mali. The celebration witnessed the honoring of institutions and personalities that have made tangible achievements and contributions in the field of preserving manuscript heritage, including the Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage in the United Arab Emirates (Heritage Foundation of the Year), Dr. .
