UN appoints Sigrid Kaag as Special Coordinator for Middle East Peace Process

Washington (UNA/SPA) - The United Nations has appointed Dutch Minister Sigrid Kaag as interim Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, succeeding Tor Wennesland.

Sigrid Kaag has extensive experience in international affairs, having held leadership positions at the United Nations, including as Special Representative and Head of the OPCW Mission in Syria, and ministerial positions in the Dutch government.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed his confidence in Sigrid Kaag to enhance mediation efforts and work with all parties to support sustainable solutions that ensure peace and stability in the region, considering this temporary designation a step within the ongoing efforts of the United Nations to enhance its role in achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
