Women Development Organization calls for concerted regional and international efforts to enhance digital infrastructure and develop technological skills among girls

Islamabad (UNA/SPA) – The Women Development Organization (WDO) participated in the international conference on “Girls’ Education in Muslim Societies: Challenges and Opportunities”, held in Islamabad, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, on January 11-12.

The Executive Director of the organization, Dr. Afnan bint Abdullah Al-Shuaibi, delivered a speech during the session “Information Technology and Women’s Education: Opportunities and Prospects,” during which she emphasized the importance of education as a basic right for girls and an effective tool for achieving empowerment and promoting sustainable development in Muslim societies.

She pointed to the pivotal role of technology in improving the quality of education and expanding educational opportunities, calling for concerted regional and international efforts to enhance digital infrastructure and develop technological skills among girls.

She explained that according to international reports, there are about 129 million girls around the world out of school, 60% of whom are in conflict-affected areas, and that this painful reality requires working to enhance educational opportunities for girls, especially in the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

She stressed that addressing the digital divide is a necessary step to ensure equal educational opportunities, emphasizing that technology-supported education is key to improving girls’ lives and enabling them to build a better future for themselves and their communities.

In the context of enhancing international cooperation, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Women’s Development Organization and the Muslim World League, with the aim of enhancing cooperation in addressing key issues related to the empowerment of women and girls through innovative strategies and effective programs, and comes within the “Girls’ Education Initiative in Muslim Societies” launched by His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa.

Following the signing of the agreement, Dr. Al-Shaibi stressed that the Women’s Development Organization is committed to expanding access to education and achieving empowerment for girls and women, and continuing cooperation with partners to achieve common goals that serve the education and empowerment of women in Muslim societies.
