Secretary General, Pakistan PM stress crucial role of OIC in promoting and protecting interests and priorities of Muslim countries

Islamabad (UNA) – The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), His Excellency Mr. Hussain Ibrahim Taha, met with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, His Excellency Mr. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad. Both leaders strongly condemned the Israeli aggression on Gaza and reiterated their support for the Palestinian people. They called for an immediate end to the Israeli aggression and occupation and reiterated the need for the OIC to continue to pressure the international community to address the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution in order to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.

The Secretary-General expressed his thanks to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Sharif, for his invitation to attend the International Conference on Girls’ Education in Muslim Societies in Islamabad, and expressed his appreciation for this initiative, which aims to stimulate concrete and concerted efforts to continue improving the quality of education and empowering women in the Muslim world.

The Secretary General also appreciated Pakistan’s principled commitment to the Palestinian cause and its leadership in the Islamic world and also underlined the OIC’s principled position and continued support on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. The Prime Minister, for his part, appreciated the OIC’s principled position and steadfast support for resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations and the OIC.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister of Pakistan expressed his deep appreciation to the Secretary General for his dynamic leadership of the OIC and assured Pakistan’s full support in advancing the common priorities and objectives of the Organization while making it more effective as a collective voice of the Muslim Ummah.

The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, including Afghanistan and the global rise of Islamophobia, with the Secretary General commending and praising Pakistan’s leadership on the issue of Islamophobia.

The Secretary-General also highlighted the challenges facing OIC Member States in Africa.

In this regard, the Prime Minister urged support for African countries to overcome these challenges and stressed that Pakistan is ready to support OIC initiatives in Africa in the areas of health, education, science and technology.
