
Kazan (UNA) – The General Conference of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) unanimously approved the re-election of Dr. Salem bin Mohammed Al-Malik as Director-General of the organization for a new term, based on a nomination from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during the 15th session of the General Conference, which began on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan, Russian Federation.
In this context, the ISESCO General Conference adopted the proposal of the Arab Republic of Egypt regarding the completion of two years of the first term of Dr. Al-Malik, as compensation for the exceptional circumstances imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic and its repercussions on the strategic plans of the organization, and in appreciation of the remarkable progress achieved by ISESCO at the international and regional levels.
In his speech following his election, Dr. Al-Malik expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and to his Crown Prince, Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, for the honor of his nomination, which came within the framework of the Kingdom’s approach to promoting inspiring leadership, sharpening human capabilities, and advancing Saudi leaders to assume leadership positions in international organizations, thus confirming the Kingdom’s advanced roles in building a future of peace, security, and prosperity. He also expressed his appreciation to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God grant him victory, and the Moroccan government for supporting and hosting the organization’s headquarters.
Dr. Al-Malik affirmed that ISESCO, as the cultural voice and conscience of the Islamic world, is fully prepared to work with its member states to make cultural radiance a reality, especially since a historic opportunity is opening up for the Islamic world to boldly advance in shaping the new era, highlighting that the region has material and human capabilities that qualify it to achieve its goals.
It is worth noting that ISESCO has witnessed, in recent years, a comprehensive development and extensive modernization of its sectors, departments and centers, in accordance with innovative work plans and a strategic vision, to develop and implement pioneering initiatives, programs and projects in the fields of education, science, technology, culture and communication, as well as opening up to broad prospects for partnerships that have placed the organization at the forefront of advanced, superior, successful and distinguished regional organizations.
