Riyadh (UNA/SPA) – The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Mr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, expressed his strong condemnation and denunciation of the brutal Iranian attacks that targeted the commercial port of Duqm in the sisterly Sultanate of Oman, and an oil tanker off its coasts; stressing that these attacks represent a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the Sultanate of Oman, and a dangerous escalation that would undermine the security and stability of the region, and threaten the safety of maritime navigation and global energy supplies.
He explained that the treacherous attacks targeting the GCC countries reflect its intentions towards the region in general, especially since the GCC countries had previously conveyed to the Iranian regime in several meetings and occasions assurances that they would not allow their lands or airspace to be used to carry out any military operations against the Islamic Republic of Iran. He stressed that Iran’s targeting of civilian facilities is a serious violation of international law, the UN Charter, and the rules of good neighborliness.
His Excellency stressed the GCC’s full solidarity and unwavering support for the Sultanate of Oman in all measures it takes to protect its sovereignty and preserve its security and stability, reiterating the GCC’s rejection of all forms of aggression targeting the security of its member states.
