The UAE provides 3 food baskets to support Sudanese refugees in Chad.

ABU DHABI (UNA/WAM) – The UAE has implemented a new humanitarian initiative in the Republic of Chad to support Sudanese refugees. Three thousand food baskets were distributed in the Doki, Alasha, and Abu Qadam camps, in addition to sending a field medical team to provide healthcare in the Abu Qadam camp.

This project was implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Social Action, Solidarity, and Humanitarian Affairs and the National Committee for the Reception and Reintegration of Refugees and Returnees in Chad, as part of a joint effort to alleviate the suffering of refugees and meet their basic needs.

Fifteen thousand Sudanese refugees, distributed across three main camps, benefited from this relief project. 1500 food baskets were distributed in Dogi camp, benefiting 7500 people. 1300 food baskets were distributed in Alasha camp, benefiting 6500 people. 200 food baskets were distributed in Abu Qadam camp, benefiting 1000 people. The aim was to meet the needs of these families for a full month, ensuring enhanced food security and improved living conditions in the targeted camps.

The initiative also saw a medical team dispatched to Abu Qadam camp to provide medical care and services to refugees, helping meet a fundamental aspect of their humanitarian needs amid the difficult conditions they face.

His Excellency Rashid Saeed Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Chad, said: “This initiative is an extension of the UAE’s humanitarian and development approach, which places people at the heart of its priorities. It underscores the country’s unwavering commitment to assisting those affected by crises and conflicts, especially in areas experiencing mass displacement and dire humanitarian conditions.”

His Excellency added: “The project reflects the UAE’s ongoing and tireless efforts to support the social and economic stability of the local population in Chad. Such initiatives contribute to strengthening social cohesion and human solidarity by providing essential materials that guarantee a decent living in the face of regional refugee challenges. They also support refugee issues in various regions of the world, working to improve their humanitarian and living conditions, whether through direct support or through cooperation with international organizations.”

It's worth noting that the UAE has built three hospitals for Sudanese refugees in neighboring countries. It constructed two field hospitals in the cities of Amdjaras and Abeche in Chad, and Madhool Hospital in the Republic of South Sudan, as part of the country's efforts to provide medical services to Sudanese refugees.
