Transfer of artifacts belonging to Tutankhamun to the Grand Museum, west of Cairo

Cairo (INA) – The Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities announced, on Monday (June 19, 2017), the transfer of a group of rare antiquities of the most famous Pharaonic king, Tutankhamun, from the Egyptian Museum, in the center of the capital, Cairo, to the Grand Museum near the Giza pyramids, west of the capital. The ministry said in a statement: The transfer process comes within the framework of the joint project, between the Ministry of Antiquities and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (governmental), with the aim of restoring, maintaining and packaging the king's artifacts from the Egyptian Museum to their permanent display at the Grand Egyptian Museum. The statement quoted Tarek Tawfik, General Supervisor of the Grand Egyptian Museum, as saying: The pieces are a rare collection of the king's botanical effects, seeds, a model of a chair covered with a layer of white mortar (building material), and some of his boat models equipped with cabins decorated in many colors. For his part, Essa Zaidan, Director General of the Initial Restoration at the Grand Egyptian Museum, said, according to the Anatolia News Agency: Among the most important of these pieces is a rare collection of plants and seeds, the most important of which are the fruits of onions, garlic, dried dates, durum, barley seeds and ficus trees (a tree species belonging to the legume family), according to Statement. And at the end of last May, the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities announced the start of transferring King Tutankhamun's belongings from the Egyptian Museum to the Grand Museum, starting with his golden funerary bed.
