Half a million drivers broke traffic lights in Kuala Lumpur in 2015

Kuala Lumpur (INA) – Traffic police in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, revealed that they had issued nearly half a million fines to road users for violating traffic lights in the past year. Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Chief Muhammad Nazri Hussain explained that out of 491479 violations, 78 percent of the violations were caught through cameras installed at 17 major junctions on the capital's roads, while the rest were monitored directly by security men on the spot. He was quoted by the news agency Bernama as saying: Fines for violations for the same violations from January to March 2016 increased by 29 percent, as we recorded 142.039 traffic violations compared to 110.021 during the same period last year. The official pointed out that 51 traffic accidents occurred due to violations of traffic lights during the past year, while 11 accidents were recorded between January and March this year, with one fatality. He pointed out that the Traffic Police distributes 240 security men to monitor traffic on the roads of the Federal Capital, with a focus on peak times between six and ten in the morning, and between five and nine in the evening.
