Ramallah (UNA/WAFA) – Minister Raed Abu al-Homs, head of the Palestinian Authority's Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, called on Wednesday morning for international, regional, European, and global action to protect leader Marwan Barghouti, who is being subjected to a series of brutal attacks aimed at eliminating and assassinating him. The latest of these attacks involved firing rubber bullets at his body after storming his cell and abusing him..
Abu al-Homs said: “The imprisoned leader Marwan Barghouti is a national and international symbol, and targeting him in this systematic way by the occupation government and its ministers, and implemented by the prison administration police, reveals that there is a clear plan to get rid of him. This contains clear messages from the occupation and its tools, that this targeting in this manner means a denial of the status and humanity of the prisoners, and this poses a real danger to the lives of all male and female prisoners.”
He added that the criminal and retaliatory policies implemented inside prisons and detention centers, which have exceeded all international laws and norms, place the leaders of the occupation at the top of the list of war criminals and perpetrators of crimes against humanity, because what is practiced, applied and implemented against male and female prisoners, including execution, rape, starvation and deprivation, has turned their lives into hell, and put the world in the dock, as it is still silent to this moment.
Abu al-Homs called on all free people of the world to take immediate action to save Barghouti and all male and female prisoners, and not to continue the silence that gives the occupation authorities and their criminal tools a large and wide space to enjoy the suffering and pain of the prisoners.
