Riyadh (UNA/SPA) – The Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Mr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, expressed his strong condemnation and denunciation of the continued incursions by extremist settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces, and the raising of the Israeli flag within its courtyards, stressing that these provocative practices represent a flagrant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
The GCC states also affirmed their categorical rejection of all measures taken by the Israeli occupation forces aimed at changing the historical and legal status quo in the city of Jerusalem and its Islamic holy sites, warning that the continuation of these violations would fuel tension and instability in the region and undermine the chances of achieving peace.
The Secretary-General reiterated the GCC countries’ full solidarity with the Palestinian people and their unwavering support for their legitimate rights, foremost among them the establishment of their independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
