Nouakchott (UNA) - The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, affirmed during the meeting of the Six-Party Committee on the Question of Palestine, which was held on March 17, 2023 in Nouakchott, the Organization's firm position towards the issue of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif.
Taha called for concerted efforts and building on the positions of countries adhering to the values ​​of justice and the principles of international law, stressing the importance of member states submitting written statements, oral pleadings, and financial contributions in order to support the rights of the Palestinian people and end the Israeli colonial occupation, as it is illegal and illegitimate under international law and resolutions of international legitimacy. .
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine, Dr. Riyad Al-Malki, delivered a speech that included a presentation of the dangerous situation in the occupied Palestinian territory as a result of the escalation of Israeli crimes, aggressions and violations against the Palestinian people, their land and their sanctities.
This committee emanating from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which met on the sidelines of the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization in Nouakchott, Mauritania, came out with important recommendations, most notably welcoming the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly at its seventy-seventh session of a resolution requesting an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice on What is the existence of the Israeli colonial occupation on the land of the State of Palestine, including the city of Jerusalem, and the legal implications of this situation for all countries and the United Nations; Calling on the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention to exert all efforts to ensure that Israel, the occupying power, fully adheres to the provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention in the occupied Palestinian territories, including Al-Quds Al-Sharif, in addition to supporting Palestinian efforts and endeavors on the international scene with the aim of achieving justice and providing international protection for the Palestinian people. And confirming its legitimate rights, holding the Israeli occupation accountable for its crimes and continuous violations, and launching a political process under international auspices with multilateral parties leading to ending the Israeli occupation and embodying the establishment of an independent State of Palestine on the 1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
