Safadi and Erekat warn of the continuation of the political impasse

Amman (UNA) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, received yesterday, Sunday, the Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Dr. Saeb Erekat, to discuss ways to continue coordinating positions and joint action to break the political impasse in peace efforts and find a horizon that allows progress towards resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. On the basis of the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 1967, 194, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as the only way to achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace. Al-Safadi and Erekat warned of the danger of the continued political impasse, and stressed the need to launch an effective and immediate international movement to end the occupation and spare the region more tension and conflict. Al-Safadi briefed Erekat on the contacts and moves that the Kingdom is making to break the stalemate in the peace efforts, to bridge the dangerous financial deficit faced by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and to provide financial and political support to the agency, to ensure that it continues to perform its responsibilities towards the Palestinian refugees in accordance with its UN mandate. Al-Safadi and Erekat warned of the seriousness of UNRWA's financial situation, and stressed the need for the agency to continue to play its role in meeting the life needs of the Palestinian refugees, stressing that the refugee issue is one of the final status issues to be resolved within it on the basis of Resolution XNUMX and the Arab Peace Initiative, in a way that fulfills the right of return and compensation. Safadi and Erekat reviewed developments related to achieving national reconciliation in Gaza, where Erekat informed Safadi of the results of the moves to achieve it. The two sides affirmed their support for the efforts made by the Arab Republic of Egypt to achieve reconciliation and to help address the situation in the Strip. Al-Safadi stressed Jordan's firm position in supporting efforts to achieve Palestinian national reconciliation and in light of the Palestinian legitimacy represented by the Palestinian National Authority and President Mahmoud Abbas. Erekat conveyed the appreciation of the Palestinian leadership for the Jordanian efforts to support the Palestinian people and their right to freedom and state on its national soil on the basis of the two-state solution, and affirmed the Palestinian leadership's appreciation for the continuous efforts of King Abdullah II, the guardian of Islamic and Christian sanctities, to protect Jerusalem and the holy places.
