Jeddah (UNA) – The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Taha, affirmed on Thursday evening that irresponsible statements and false ideological claims constitute an unacceptable and illegitimate justification for the occupying forces to continue their illegal actions based on settlement and annexation, and to attempt to impose alleged sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory, as well as violating the sovereignty of states, the principles of international law, and the resolutions and charter of the United Nations, which threatens security and stability in the entire region.
This came in a speech by the Secretary-General at the emergency meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, open-ended at the level of foreign ministers, held at the organization’s headquarters in Jeddah, delivered on his behalf by the Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Jerusalem Affairs at the organization, Samir Bakr.
He warned of the danger of Israeli measures targeting the existence of the Palestinian people, their land, holy sites and legitimate rights, reiterating that the occupation forces have no sovereignty over the Palestinian land, which includes the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including the city of Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
He said that the continued Israeli occupation of the occupied Palestinian territory is illegal and that the occupation must end and all its decisions and actions must cease, as they are null and void under international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, including UN Security Council Resolution 2334.
He called for the swift implementation of the second phase of the peace plan under UN Security Council Resolution 2803, which would achieve a sustainable ceasefire, open all crossings, deliver humanitarian aid, ensure the complete withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces, and implement emergency relief, economic recovery, and reconstruction programs.
He warned of the danger of the unacceptable Israeli measures to liquidate the Palestinian refugee issue by targeting the existence of UNRWA and its vital role in providing basic needs for millions of Palestinian refugees, stressing the need to double political, financial and legal support for this UN agency, whose role is a top priority.
He stressed the need to redouble efforts to revive the responsibility of the international community in order to put an end to the crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, enabling them to exercise their legitimate rights, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital.
The meeting will discuss the illegal decisions of the Israeli occupation aimed at promoting settlement and annexation and attempting to impose alleged Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank.
The meeting aims to coordinate positions and discuss ways to confront these invalid decisions and measures taken by the Israeli occupation authorities.
