Libreville (INA) - In order to reduce dependence on oil revenues alone, Gabon has embarked on a wide program to diversify its economy through the development of other industries, the most important of which is fishing. In this context, the Gabonese government and the Mauritian group Ireland Blythe Ltd. signed a partnership that resulted in the establishment of the Tropical Holding Company, which will manage various economic activities, including fishing and canning, with the Gabon Seafood Factory. "Our aim in Gabon is to develop the fishing industry through the promotion of marine products," said Hemont Judegont, CEO of Tropical Holding. This objective is in line with Gabon's desire to diversify its economy by establishing and developing non-oil activities, noting that oil activities have contributed abundantly to the current levels of growth. Even if it is still in its infancy, the fishing activity has made it possible to supply the market of the capital, Libreville, with various fresh fish, although the ultimate goal of this partnership is to reach the local, regional and then the international market. The company has also developed a local brand of canned sardines produced exclusively from fish caught in Gabon. This national brand aspires to high quality at a lower price than the prices in the national market. (End) Eman Al-Zwaini
