Smuggling 2500 Yemeni manuscripts to Israel

Sana'a (INA) - The Heritage Center for Studies and Research in the Yemeni city of Taiz revealed that 2500 rare ancient Yemeni manuscripts had been smuggled to Israel, since the September Revolution until today. The director of the center, Suad Al-Absi, said in a press statement published today that brokers, gangs and cells specialized in smuggling antiquities smuggled these manuscripts to Turkey, before transferring them at a later time to Israel. Al-Absi indicated that these manuscripts date back to different time periods, most notably the pre-Islamic period, and the period of the rule of the Rasulid state in Yemen. On the other hand, Al-Absi denounced the silence of the official authorities on the phenomenon of smuggling antiquities, which is destroying the national heritage of Yemen, while calling on the government to take a package of measures and procedures to limit this phenomenon.
