Beijing (UNA/Xinhua) – Representatives from media organizations, government agencies and international organizations participating in the 7th World Media Summit met on Thursday in the center of the Chinese capital, Beijing, to attend an event highlighting the city's central axis.
The 7th World Media Summit, co-hosted by Xinhua News Agency and the Beijing Municipal Government, will be held from Thursday to next Monday in Beijing.
On the sidelines of the summit, the event was held in the historic Longfu Temple District, and included interactive activities showcasing intangible cultural heritage.
In her remarks at the event, Shi Yanchun, Vice President of Xinhua News Agency, expressed her hope that the guests would experience the charm of Beijing, a city steeped in history, and appreciate the profound heritage of authentic traditional Chinese culture.
She added that it is also hoped that all parties will seize the opportunity of the World Media Summit to leverage the power of the media, build consensus, and work together to spread positive energy that serves peace and development globally.
Beijing Deputy Mayor Sima Hong told participants at the event that the city has been working to restore cultural relics, preserve the distinctive character of historic districts, and improve the lives of residents along Beijing Central since it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2024.
The central axis runs from north to south through the heart of historic Beijing, and includes ancient monuments such as the Bell Tower, Drum Tower and the Forbidden City.
The Longfu Temple District, a centuries-old neighborhood located near Beijing's central axis, has been revitalized into a new cultural center that is increasingly popular with young people and foreign tourists.
A number of participants at the World Media Summit agreed on the need for the media to play its role in highlighting and protecting cultural heritage, and to make effective use of digital technologies to promote dialogue and mutual learning between civilizations.
The World Media Summit, launched in 2009, is a leading global platform for media exchange and collaboration. This year's summit attracts delegates from 112 countries and regions, along with representatives from international organizations, to discuss a range of topics, including artificial intelligence and media development.
