Geneva (UNA/WAS) – The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Sudan, Radwan Nouicer, warned of the escalating risk of attacks by marches in Sudan, calling for accountability and international pressure to push the parties towards dialogue.
The UN rapporteur called for an immediate halt to the violations, stressing that there is no military solution to the conflict, noting the killing of tens of thousands and the displacement and refuge of 14 million people, with famine worsening and services collapsing.
For its part, the International Organization for Migration reported that after three years of conflict, about nine million people remain displaced within the country, while waves of displacement continue in Darfur, Kordofan and Blue Nile State, amid the continued destruction of basic services and a lack of shelter and health care, as millions of Sudanese continue to head to neighboring countries.
The organization explained that the humanitarian response is facing difficulties due to a lack of funding and logistical constraints, leading to shortages of supplies and difficulty in reaching the most vulnerable groups, calling for $277 million to be provided to help the most vulnerable groups in Sudan and neighboring countries.
For its part, the World Food Programme warned of worsening hunger in Sudan, where more than 19 million people face acute food insecurity, amid funding shortages and rising prices.
The program called for urgent funding exceeding US$600 million to ensure the continuation of food aid.
