The President of Benin decides not to run for the elections

Paris (INA) – Benin's President Thomas Boni Yaye has chosen to respect his country's constitution and not run for the 2016 presidential elections at the end of two presidential terms, AFP reported on Tuesday. On the sidelines of an official visit to Paris, he said, "Every person has his own convictions, and my conviction is to respect the constitution of my country, which stipulates two non-renewable presidential terms." He added: I do not have any examples to give, I do not want to criticize anyone. Yayi, 63, was elected for the first time in April 2006 and was re-elected five years later. He considered that each country has its own characteristics. Adding that there are heads of state who are working and have launched several large projects and are loved by their people and have reached, through democratic means, to amend their constitution. Four months before the presidential elections scheduled for February 28, 2016, the pro-presidential party has not yet decided to nominate its candidate. (End) p m / h p / p m
