Jeddah (UNA/SPA) – Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah Region, will sponsor the opening ceremony of the third edition of the International Nuclear Science Olympiad “INSO 2026” in Jeddah on Monday, with the participation of 120 students and scientific specialists from 19 countries.
The Olympiad is organized in partnership between the Ministry of Education, the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba”, and the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, while King Abdulaziz University will host its competitions during the period from 3 to 9 August 2026.
The International Nuclear Science Olympiad, approved by the International Atomic Energy Agency in 2024, represents an international scientific platform for exchanging experiences among students in the field of nuclear science and its peaceful applications, promoting the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technologies, motivating young people to specialize in this field, and encouraging them to develop solutions and innovations that contribute to expanding the applications of nuclear science for peaceful purposes.
The Kingdom’s participation in the International Nuclear Science Olympiad, represented by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba”, began with the launch of its first edition in 2024 in the Philippines, then in the second edition hosted by Malaysia in 2025, during which it achieved five international awards, including a silver medal, three bronze medals, and a certificate of appreciation.
The Kingdom’s hosting of the third edition of the International Nuclear Science Olympiad embodies its commitment to supporting scientific excellence and enhances its position as a global center for hosting international scientific competitions, which contributes to preparing national talents in advanced scientific fields.
The organization of the Olympiad in the Kingdom comes as an extension of its success in hosting a number of international scientific competitions, most notably the International Chemistry Olympiad in 2024 in Riyadh, and the Asian Physics Olympiad in 2025 in the Eastern Province, reflecting its advanced position in organizing global scientific events, and its role in providing competitive environments that contribute to developing the capabilities of talented individuals and enhancing scientific cooperation.
