Tashkent (UNA) – A joint meeting of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held on July 15, 2022 in Tashkent to consider the issue of Karakalpakstan. During the joint meeting, the appeal of the Deputy Secretary of the Parliament of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) on the issue of ensuring human rights and freedoms of citizens of the Karakalpakstan (Autonomous Republic) of the Republic of Uzbekistan was considered. A joint decision of the Parliament was made on the formation of a special commission to study the facts and events that took place in the Karakalpakstan (Autonomous Republic) in July 2022 and conduct an independent investigation into them, approving the composition and structure of the special commission. The commission includes representatives of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, deputies, leaders and employees of non-governmental and public organizations. The head of the commission is the Human Rights Commissioner of the Parliament of the Republic of Uzbekistan Firuza Ishmatova. The results of the investigation will be made public and presented to the public in Uzbekistan and the international community. (End)
