Riyadh (UNA) - The official spokesman for the Saudi Ministry of Health, Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdali, announced that the number of doses of the anti-coronavirus vaccine given in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has exceeded 45 million and 500 thousand doses, and that the number of those who received two doses reached 21 million and 100 thousand people. Al-Abdali confirmed, during a press conference held yesterday evening, Sunday, that the doses are not only available to those who took the first dose or to those who will receive the second dose, but they are currently available to those who will receive the booster and activation dose, the third dose as well, adding that this activation dose is important, due to the possibility of the effectiveness of immunization against the Corona virus decreasing over time. In this regard, he pointed out that the health authorities have begun giving the third dose to some groups, namely those with high risks related to the immune aspect, such as organ transplant recipients, those with chronic kidney failure, those with chronic diseases, the elderly, or health practitioners, and that it will be expanded to give it to those over 18 years of age and above who have taken the second dose for 6 months. The official spokesman for the Ministry of Health stated that there is a difference between the end of the pandemic and the phase of easing precautionary measures, as the pandemic is not over yet, but we have gains represented in easing the measures and not canceling them. Stressing the need to expedite obtaining vaccinations for those who are still afraid or have any circumstances that prevented them from obtaining them during the past period. Dr. Al-Abdali added that (47) new cases of the new Corona virus (COVID-19) were recorded, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Kingdom to (548252) cases, and the number of active cases to (2192) active cases, while the number of critical cases reached (79) cases. Pointing out that the number of recoveries in the Kingdom reached (537282) cases with the addition of (36) new recoveries, while the number of deaths reached (8778) cases, with the addition of two cases.
