Conakry (INA) - Guinea has seen a new number of cases of the deadly Ebola virus, caused by infection at funerals, a health official said in Guinea. “Now we have 27 patients in our treatment centers, including 18 confirmed cases,” said a spokesman for the Special Health Department, Fodi Tass-Sela, at the weekend. He stated that all the new patients were infected at the funeral ceremonies. Guinea is trying to stem the year-old outbreak, which has killed more than 11 people in the West African region. Health officials in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone are conducting large-scale awareness campaigns to warn of improper burials for victims of the disease, but they are often met with resistance from a population that considers such restrictions an infringement of traditional burial practices.
