
Manama (UNA) – The General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (GCIBFI), the global umbrella organization for Islamic financial institutions, successfully held its 26th Annual General Meeting remotely today, with the participation of its members and stakeholders from various countries, to discuss its strategic priorities and future initiatives.
The meeting was opened by Professor Abdul Hamid Abu Musa, Vice Chairman of the Board, who welcomed the participants and expressed his appreciation for the continued support and active participation of members and stakeholders in strengthening the role of the General Council and advancing the Islamic financial services industry globally.
During the meeting, the General Assembly members reviewed the comprehensive activity report for 2025, which documents significant milestones and tangible achievements reflecting the General Council's commitment to its mission. These efforts ranged from impactful knowledge initiatives and advanced professional development programs to actively representing industry interests and forging strategic partnerships that have strengthened the Islamic finance industry's position on the global stage.
The General Assembly also witnessed the announcement of the General Council's new digital platform, a sophisticated technological tool that redefines interaction between institutions and members. The platform provides access to the Council's programs and information without geographical boundaries or logistical barriers, promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities.
Commenting on the meeting's outcomes, Professor Hamza Bawazir, Secretary General of the General Council, stated: “The convening of our General Assembly with such enthusiasm and commitment reflects a deep belief in the importance of the Islamic finance industry. We do not view this meeting as merely an annual event, but rather as a strategic milestone that renews our vision and redefines our aspirations. Our commitment to delivering value-added initiatives, promoting knowledge exchange, and strengthening cooperation among institutions is not an option, but a strategic imperative.”
At the end of the meeting, participants commended the General Secretariat's efforts in implementing its strategic initiatives and providing high-quality and impactful programs and services to its members and the wider Islamic finance industry. They also reaffirmed their support for the General Council's mission and vision, expressing their best wishes for its continued success and excellence in the coming years.
