Jerusalem (UNA/WAFA) – The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, the preacher of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, condemned the occupation’s approval of a plan to seize 15 to 20 historic properties in the Bab al-Silsila neighborhood, and the authorization of the Jewish Quarter Development Company to implement it.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Mufti Hussein indicated that these properties belong to Jerusalemite families and include Islamic buildings and endowments dating back to the Ayyubid, Mamluk, and Ottoman eras. He considered this a major and dangerous escalation of colonialism, the largest of its kind near the Al-Aqsa Mosque in nearly 60 years, reflecting a systematic Israeli policy aimed at emptying the area surrounding the Al-Aqsa Mosque and carrying out ethnic cleansing to displace Palestinians from the holy city and Judaize it..
He called upon Arabs and Muslims, leaders, governments, peoples, parties and organizations, and the honorable people of the world to do their duty and take urgent action to put an end to the Israeli aggression against Jerusalem and its holy sites, and to stop these systematic colonial policies.
Mufti Hussein also warned of the seriousness of the situation regarding the Palestinian people, their holy sites, their land, and their humanity..
