The resolution also refers to the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice on 19 July 2024 concerning the legal consequences arising from Israel’s policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and the illegality of its continued presence there, in addition to recalling the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion concerning the wall..
The draft resolution affirmed the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to their natural resources, demanding that Israel cease exploiting these resources and emphasizing the Palestinian people's right to compensation for such exploitation. It also stressed that Israel's settlement construction, building of the wall, and other practices constitute actions harmful to the Palestinian environment..
The resolution reaffirmed the Security Council's call in its resolution 2334, which called upon States to distinguish between the territory of the State of Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories..
For his part, the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Minister Riyad Mansour, expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to the countries that voted in favor of the resolution, valuing this overwhelming support and growing sympathy from the international community, especially in light of the genocidal aggression that Israel continues to wage against our people in the Gaza Strip, in addition to its ongoing aggression in the West Bank, stressing the need to compel Israel to implement this resolution..
