Ramallah (UNA/WAFA) – The Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club said that more than 9500 prisoners in Israeli prisons, including more than 350 children, 22 female prisoners, and 3405 administrative detainees, are facing organized and systematic crimes, which have reached their peak since the beginning of the genocide crime that led to the martyrdom of dozens of prisoners. The identities of 63 of them have been announced, including 40 from Gaza, while many martyrs among the Gaza prisoners are still subjected to enforced disappearance.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club added in a joint statement, on the eve of Eid al-Fitr and Land Day, that this year's Eid al-Fitr and Land Day come at one of the bloodiest times in the history of the Palestinian people, with the ongoing crime of genocide and comprehensive aggression. One aspect of this genocide is the systematic crimes perpetrated by the prison system against prisoners.
They emphasized that one of the most prominent forms of the ongoing aggression and colonial erasure operations is the systematic daily arrest campaigns, which have reached approximately 15700 arrests in the West Bank since the beginning of the war of genocide. This data does not include the arrests in Gaza, which are estimated in the thousands. Meanwhile, the number of arrests of women since the beginning of the genocide has reached more than 500, and this number does not include the women arrested from Gaza, whose number is estimated in the dozens. Meanwhile, the number of arrests of children in the West Bank has reached no less than 1200.
The statement explained that the ongoing arrest campaigns are accompanied by escalating crimes and violations, including: acts of abuse and severe beatings, threats against detainees and their families, in addition to widespread acts of vandalism and destruction in citizens' homes, the seizure of vehicles, money, and gold jewelry, in addition to the widespread destruction of infrastructure, specifically in Tulkarm and its two camps, and Jenin and its camp, the demolition of homes belonging to the families of prisoners, and the use of family members as hostages, in addition to the use of detainees as human shields.
It should be noted that the data relating to arrests in the West Bank includes those who were kept in detention by the occupation and those who were subsequently released. This data does not include the number of arrests from the Gaza Strip due to the crime of enforced disappearance imposed by the occupation on detainees in Gaza.
The Commission of Prisoners' Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club renewed their call to the international human rights community to end its impotence in the face of the ongoing genocide and crimes against prisoners in Israeli prisons and camps. They also called on the World Health Organization to urgently intervene in the unprecedented systematic crimes being perpetrated against prisoners.
