Türkiye condemns Colombia's recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights

The Turkish Foreign Ministry stressed that Türkiye will continue its support to preserve the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria.

Ankara (UNA/Anadolu) – The Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned on Tuesday Colombia’s decision to “recognize Israeli sovereignty” over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

This came in a statement issued by the Turkish Ministry, in which it said: “We strongly condemn the declaration issued by Colombia aimed at legitimizing the Israeli occupation of the Golan Heights, which constitute an integral part of Syria.”

She stressed that such unilateral attempts, which constitute a grave violation of international law, in particular Security Council Resolution 497, have no legal value.

It renewed its call for the international community to assume its responsibilities in order to put an end to the Israeli occupation of southern Syria, including the Golan Heights, and the attacks targeting the country’s sovereignty and stability.

She stressed that Türkiye will continue its support to preserve the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria and to establish lasting peace and stability in the country.

The Colombian government announced on August 10 its recognition of “Israeli sovereignty” over the Golan Heights, which is considered occupied Syrian territory.
