Tashkent (UNA) - A joint meeting of the Legislative Council and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held on July 15, 2022 in the capital, Tashkent, to consider the issue of Karakalpakstan. During the joint meeting, the review of the representative of the Parliament of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) on the issue of guaranteeing human rights and freedoms of citizens of the Karakalpakstan (Autonomous) Republic of Uzbekistan was considered. A joint decision was taken by Parliament regarding the formation of the Special Committee to study the facts and events that took place in the Republic of Karakalpakstan in July 2022 and to conduct an independent investigation thereon, with the approval of the formation and system of the Special Committee. The commission includes representatives of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, deputies, leaders and employees of non-governmental and public organizations. The Commission on Human Rights in the Parliament of the Republic of Uzbekistan is led by Firuza Ishmatova. The results of the investigation will be made public and presented to the public in Uzbekistan and the international community. (I finish)
